The Purpose
Background:
I am a very young doctor, having completed 2 years of housemanship in Mac 2020. I will not say I have a vast amount of experience in the medicine or working for the government, but with 3 years (and on-going) in this field, I would say I have picked up some lessons and formed my own opinions along the way. Perhaps my posts will be more relevant for the doctors of this generation.
Purpose:
The reason I started this blog stems from the belief that the Malaysian healthcare system isn't as hopeless as everyone thinks it to be. Our system needs to be great, because who else can most of us trust during times of need (eg. Heart Attack, Stroke, COVID-19) if not our government-owned hospitals, doctors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals?
As Malaysians, we tend to have very high expectations on our "return on investment". We pay tax, so why don't we deserve the best? We need to understand is that healthcare can be a very expensive service (or a profitable business). It would be irrational to expect the government to support 31 million (Oct 2020) Malaysians on a fee of 1 ringgit per visit (or RM5 for specialist consultation), and TCA with 3 - 4 months supply of medications. - Yes, it's unbelievably cheap. Not to mention, the healthcare allocation in our budget is not on par with developed countries, but you get the gist.
In this blog, I will not focus too much on economic or government policies regarding the healthcare system or fundings on a national scale as these are mostly out of our control. Instead, I believe small steps make a difference. Starting off with re-emphasis on professional education, discussions and sharing during our daily ward rounds [hence the name of this blog ;)]
I also like to share lessons I learnt in life from my perspective as a doctor, son and consumer. These are based on my own views but if you have your own opinions you would like to share, I would be glad to learn from them as well!
My posts won't too long, as I would be busy at work most of the time and study. Feel free to hit me up in the comments below if you have particular topics you want me to cover.
